Team Orion Updates!

When Team Orion first introduced the Vortex R10 Pro speed controller in early 2011 we knew that this was our most powerful and most innovative speed controller ever. A few months later we would take home an impressive 4 ROAR electric Off Road National Championships in the hands of Jared Tebo, Dustin Evans and Dakotah Phend.

This made a big statement and would prove a changing of the guard in the ESC market has begun. Now just 1 year since the release of the R10 it has racked up numerous race wins including the latest powering Team Orion factory driver Jilles Groskamp to the 2012 IFMAR Touring Car World Championship!

The Vortex R10 Pro was our first speed controller with a CAD machined case built out of high grade anodized aluminum. This was important in order to achieve the best possible heat dissipation. But we didn’t choose the best materials only for the case, we wanted the hardware to be as robust, powerful and efficient as possible. While the battery and motor technology improved incredibly over the past years, the ESC manufacturers haven’t managed to develop a brushless speed controller which could handle the high currents of the new motors and batteries. That is why we chose only the highest quality electronic components such as high power FET with the lowest inner resistance available.

Furthermore we equipped the new R10 Pro speed controller with two sensor ports for the perfect installation on the chassis and easy access to the ports for programming. Additionally we developed a new case for the power capacitors. High quality silicone cables and optimized soldering tabs for the motor and battery cables were more features of our hardware concept.

Apart from the use of high grade components we invested a lot of work into the software which can transform a good speed controller into a World Champion speed controller. Team Orion R&D manager Oscar Jansen worked with our International racing team to develop a software which outshined everything existing. Numerous prototype speed controllers have been tested extensively on on road and off road race tracks all over the world, in many different cars, with the best drivers including National and World Champions!

The feedback of the racing team has been minutely tracked and worked into the software with the engineers. Thanks to this long lasting procedure, the core features of the speed controller could have been elaborated: the extremely smooth throttle control and the smooth but powerful Super Push Brake Technology. Another innovative feature allows the speed controller to seamlessly switch from sensor to sensorless mode in case of sensor failure.

The ultra smooth throttle and brake control has been combined with the possibility to precisely adjust all the parameters of the speed controller and perform firmware upgrades. The Vortex R10 Pro can be fine tuned using the button integrated in the on off switch or with the newly designed DSB R program box which allows an even more comfortable handling.

The Vortex R8 Pro for 1/8 scale vehicles was victorious at the demanding 1/8 electric US Nationals a little later. With the win of the 2012 IFMAR Touring Car World Championships in Holland the Vortex R10 Pro can be called the most successful and powerful speed controller at the time!

We are very proud of the incredible success of our Vortex R series speed controllers, the brushless motors, lipo batteries, nitro engines and chargers and that we were able to win a World Championship title with every of our main product categories! Thanks to all the drivers and employees for the tremendous support and collaboration.
